Love dad as yourself
Children across the country and around the world learn the Gospel-based Art of Loving through the Cube of Love program. Here’s how Aiden Choi, 5, from California, tried to “see Jesus in the other.”
Aiden is now five years old, but at the time of this experience, he was four and in preschool. He had just participated in a Focolare family retreat over the summer, where he learned about doing acts of love for Jesus.
Aiden noticed that his father, Lawrence, was sleeping on a thin mattress on the living room floor. With his back pain, he found that as the more comfortable arrangement, but it meant that his dad had to bring the mattress out of the closet every night and clean up every morning.
So, whenever Lawrence came late from work, Aiden was always ready to set up the mattress for dad. One particular night, Aiden even lay on his father’s bed and stayed for a while. When his parents asked him why he was doing that, he answered, “to warm the bed for dad.”
